Oh my. I just received an email from a friend of a friend from high school. It seems that the fire has hurt someone I once loved. Derek and his family lost their home, and have absolutely nothing. I'm sending them a box with some boy clothes and some books and such. Gift cards to Target. They should do a fire registry!
I saw a pic of their house. It's heartbreaking. Nothing but the fireplace is left.
Here's the email

"They were in the process of redoing their kitchen and had completing all new flooring in parts of their house.
Today they are being let back into the neighborhood, and will meet with claims adjusters. They've lost pretty much everything other than what they escaped with in the wee hours of Monday morning as burning chunks of embers were hitting their car on the way out.
I'm sending out a mass email in hopes I can help organize and gather things that they will need to rebuild their lives in the coming weeks and months. If you can or are willing to send a package their way, I would appreciate it. Please respond and let me know. They don't have an address yes, but I can provide one within a few days.
Derek and his wife Juta have two kids... Axel, (4), and Sonia (6). Axel wears a size 4/5 in boys. Sonia wears a size 6/7 in girls. For now, If you have any hand-me-down kids clothes, children's books, DVD's, simple toys, it would greatly help. Again if you are willing to pack up a box in the next week, reply, and I'll let you know of an address...
The primary picture at the top is what's left of Derek's house....
Thanks.... this is a time to be thankful for what we have."
If anyone can help, please let me know.
